How much does a small business website cost?
Kristian Kostov · Thessaloniki

Short answer
A freelance small business website usually costs $1,500 to $8,000. A store with product pages and photography usually costs $5,000 to $15,000. A template you finish yourself is a few hundred dollars a year, plus your time.
Those are freelance ranges I use in 2026 for clients in the US, the UK, and Europe. Use them to budget. The number still depends on pages, pictures, and whether the site has to take money.
What changes the cost of a website for a small business
- A one-page site: the offer, proof it is real, and a way to write you.
- A marketing site: home, services, work, and contact, written so a stranger knows what to do.
- An online store: product pages, payments, shipping, and the photos those pages need.
The theme is rarely the expensive part. The decisions are: what the first screen says, which picture is the product, and whether the price is visible. A slow page with a muddy photo costs more later, when ads send people to a page that does not explain the thing.
Small business website design cost, by job
- Simple marketing site: about $1,500–$4,000. A handful of pages, your words, your logo, a layout that works on a phone, and a form.
- Site plus brand files: about $3,000–$7,000 when the logo, type, and pages are done as one job.
- Ecommerce website cost: about $5,000–$15,000 for a small catalog, product pages, and checkout. Photography is often its own line.
- Care after launch: a few hours a month, or you write when something breaks. Maintenance is a retainer or a message, not a surprise rebuild.
A Squarespace, Shopify, or Wix subscription is the platform fee. It is the hosting and the checkout, and someone still has to make the template look like your business. That someone can be you. If it is me, the design and the build are the quote, and the subscription stays in your name.
Business website cost: the short version
The average cost of a small business website depends on who builds it. Doing it yourself on a builder costs a monthly plan and your evenings. Hiring a freelancer costs the ranges above. An agency costs more, mostly for the meetings. Pick by how much of your own time you can spare, not by the lowest number you saw.
Cost to create a website: what to send before the quote
The price gets honest faster when the first email includes:
- Who the site is for
- The pages you think you need
- Any logo and photos you already have
- Whether people should buy, book, or email
- A deadline
If you do not have photos, say so. Product images and the page should be planned together. I do that work across websites, product images, and stores. If you want the hiring side first, read how to hire a freelance website designer. If you want a number for your job, send the project.
